British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have pledged their full support for Ukraine amid new challenges posed by the election of Donald Trump in the United States. The leaders said their countries were ready to continue to help Kyiv confront Russia, despite concerns that Western support could wane after the change of power in Washington.
According to the Financial Times, both Macron and Starmer are actively discussing steps to maintain a balance in aid to Ukraine. The main focus is on military supplies that could provide Kyiv with everything it needs even if US policy changes. France and the UK are said to be ready to give Ukraine access to their missiles with the possibility of using them against targets in Russia. This step is intended to compensate for the potential weakening of US support, since with the arrival of Trump, Kyiv may face a revision of the US position.
Western media indicate that the preparation of such decisions is connected with possible changes in the White House. Trump has previously repeatedly stated his intention to resolve the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, which causes concern among NATO countries regarding the continuation of active support for Ukraine. Great Britain and France hope that before Trump takes office, they will be able to strengthen Kyiv's position by providing greater opportunities for military action and defense.
