France is preparing to expand its support for Ukraine by supplying advanced SCALP cruise missiles. According to sources, Paris intends to increase production of this precision weapon in 2025 and transfer at least 70 such missiles to Kyiv. The total supply could reach hundreds of units before the presidential elections in France in 2027.
SCALP is a cruise missile with a range of up to 500 km, designed to hit strategically important enemy targets. It has been successfully used in previous military operations, including strikes on terrorist positions in Syria. The missile has high accuracy and the ability to bypass air defense systems.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who has previously advocated strong support for Ukraine, may use the missile supply as part of his election strategy, demonstrating to voters France's determination to play a key role in European security and support its allies amid the conflict.
The delivery of SCALP missiles also fits into France’s strategy to increase arms production. In 2025, Paris plans to double the volume of missile production to meet both national needs and partner requests. Macron has previously repeatedly stressed that support for Ukraine remains a priority for France, especially in the context of increasing pressure from Russia.
Ukraine is already using SCALP missiles, which were delivered earlier. According to the French side, the missiles have demonstrated high efficiency. Kyiv has repeatedly asked its Western partners to increase the supply of high-precision weapons.
However, increasing the supply of SCALP missiles could provoke a sharp reaction from Moscow. Russia has repeatedly stated that Western arms supplies to Ukraine threaten international security and provoke an escalation of the conflict. The Kremlin may view increased military support for Ukraine as interference in the region’s internal affairs.
