RT TV channel editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan shared revelations on the air of the program “The Fate of a Man” about a difficult period in her life associated with the clinical death and coma of her husband, director Tigran Keosayan. In a moment of despair, she seriously considered the possibility of going to the front of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine, believing that this could be a way out for her. However, for the sake of her children, Simonyan abandoned this idea, realizing that she could not leave them without a mother. The statement, made against the backdrop of Keosayan’s ongoing treatment, caused a wide public outcry, especially given Simonyan’s provocative statements about the conflict in Ukraine in the past.
According to Simonyan, her husband has been in a coma for the past few months due to serious heart problems. In an interview, she admitted that in the darkest moments, when hope for Keosayan's recovery was fading, she thought about a radical step - going to the SVO. However, caring for her children forced her to reconsider this decision. Simonyan emphasized that she could not have acted "so cruelly" to the family and began to look for other ways to cope with her personal tragedy. She did not disclose the details of Keosayan's condition and his treatment, limiting herself to mentioning a chronic heart disease.
Simonyan, known for her controversial statements, has previously made controversial comments on the conflict in Ukraine. In October 2023, she suggested detonating a thermonuclear bomb over Siberia as an alternative to escalating the conflict with the West, but later disavowed her words, calling them an emotional reaction. These statements have cemented Simonyan's reputation as one of the most controversial figures in the Russian media space.
