Massive Ukrainian drone attack underway on Russia

On the evening of April 23, 2025, the Telegram channel "Treugolnik", associated with alerts about military threats in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), reported the movement of a large group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the direction of Russian territory. According to the channel's latest message, an attack is expected in the area of the city of Krasny Luch (LPR) and Novoshakhtinsk in the Rostov region.

"Krasny Luch LPR and Novoshakhtinsk expect a large group of UAVs", — the publication states.

Other reports from the channel confirm that a significant number of drones are moving towards the Russian border, indicating preparations for a massive strike.

Official Russian sources, including the Russian Ministry of Defense and regional authorities, have not yet confirmed the information about the attack.

Drone attacks on Russian regions and territories controlled by the LPR have become a regular occurrence during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Novoshakhtinsk, located in the border zone of the Rostov region, has already been subjected to UAV strikes. For example, on December 12, 2024, according to RIA Novosti, air defense forces destroyed five drones in the area of the city, there were no casualties and no damage. Similarly, Krasny Luch, a large city in the LPR, has repeatedly come under attack. In June 2022, as reported by the portal 161.ru, residents of the region associated drone attacks on Novoshakhtinsk with similar incidents in the LPR, including Krasny Luch, noting the visual similarity of the UAVs.

The current attack, according to Triangle's reports, may be one of the largest in recent times. For comparison, on March 11, 2025, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the interception of 337 drones, of which 91 were shot down in the Moscow region, which became the most massive attack on the capital region. That day, an employee of the Miratorg company died in Domodedovo, and residential buildings were damaged in Vidnoye and Ramenskoye.
