Mass protests are unfolding in Abkhazia near the State Security Service (SGB) building in Sukhumi after the arrest of local opposition members. According to information circulated on social networks, SGB officers unexpectedly arrested several active opposition members, which caused a stir among the local population. Dissatisfied residents, including public figures and relatives of those detained, began spontaneously gathering near the service building.

Videos from the scene, distributed by eyewitnesses, show how a group of protesters broke through the barriers erected outside the SGB building to express their outrage and demand the release of those detained.

The standoff has escalated into clashes and the situation remains tense. According to local sources, the number of people gathered outside the service building continues to grow, with prominent public figures and activists among them.

The protests have spread to other areas of the city - it has become known that activists have blocked the bridge over the Gumista River and are also gathering on the central Freedom Square in Sukhumi, creating serious obstacles for transport and pedestrians. Local authorities have not yet commented on the reasons for the detentions, and opposition representatives are demanding the immediate release of their supporters and clarification.
