Mass Escape from Military Training Ground in Rostov Region

An emergency occurred in the Rostov Region that caused a wide public outcry: on the night of May 8-9, 2025, ten servicemen previously convicted of serious crimes escaped from one of the military training grounds near Rostov-on-Don. Among them were individuals serving sentences for murder, robbery, and drug trafficking who had signed contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry to participate in a special military operation (SVO). The incident, which became known only a few days later, raised questions about control over such contract soldiers and security in the region. According to law enforcement agencies, four fugitives have already been detained, and the search for the rest continues. This was reported by the Rostov Main Telegram channel.

The escape occurred several days before the group was scheduled to be sent to the front. The servicemen, who were undergoing training at the training ground, did not show up for the morning distribution of uniforms, after which their absence was recorded. The escapees did not have weapons, which reduces the potential threat, but their criminal past raises serious concerns among local residents. In the first 24 hours after the escape, security forces managed to detain four people, but the whereabouts of the remaining six remain unknown.

There have been no official comments on this matter yet.
