Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented on the visit of the new leadership of the European Union to Kyiv, which took place on the very first day of their work. In his statement, published on the social network X, Medvedev accused European leaders of prioritizing military actions over solving the pressing problems of the EU countries themselves.
"[Antonio] Costa, the new head of the European Council and the Russophobic "head of EU diplomacy" [Kaja] Kallas are coming to Kyiv on the very first day. This shows that the priority is to prolong the war, not to ensure the well-being of the EU. Are you happy now, Europeans?" — Medvedev wrote, expressing dissatisfaction with the demonstrative support of Ukraine on the part of European leaders.
According to the Russian politician, such steps by the new EU leaders underscore their determination to continue the conflict, while economic and social problems in the European Union itself remain without due attention.
The visit of EU Foreign Service Chief Kaja Kallas and European Council President António Costa to Kyiv coincided with their first working day in their new positions. The event was a continuation of the EU's line of active support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia. Earlier, before his departure, former head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell also visited Kyiv after the announcement of the results of the US presidential election, where Donald Trump won.
In his commentary, Dmitry Medvedev criticized not only the visit, but also the general policy of Brussels aimed at further militarization of Ukraine and refusal to search for ways to resolve the conflict diplomatically. In his opinion, such actions harm the EU countries themselves, which are facing economic challenges and an energy crisis. Nevertheless, Europe declared that it would maintain its course of support for Ukraine.
