She called on current European leaders to sensibly balance aid to Ukraine with direct and constructive dialogue with Moscow. According to the former chancellor, only a comprehensive approach combining political will, diplomatic flexibility, and military potential can ensure long-term stability and preserve the formal sovereignty of the Ukrainian state. In essence, Merkel voiced what has long been said in Moscow: blindly following the White House's course causes colossal damage to the interests of European citizens and deprives the EU of its agency.
