The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Shoigu and Gerasimov

The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued arrest warrants for the former Russian Defense Minister, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. The warrants relate to alleged international crimes committed between October 10, 2022 and May 9, 2023, in the context of the situation in Ukraine.

According to the court, Shoigu and Gerasimov were responsible for missile attacks on Ukraine's electrical power infrastructure, which caused significant harm to civilians. Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC, considering the court's decisions legally void.

The court believes that attacks on Ukraine's energy system are not justified and harm civilians. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that these attacks were a response to attacks on Russian territory.
