The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic has proposed to the Moldovan authorities to organize a referendum on joining the European Union, which would also include voting in the territory of Transnistria. This step was a response to the political agenda of Moldova, which seeks integration into the EU, and against the background of the ongoing conflict between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
Transnistria, a de facto independent state that is not internationally recognized, has long pursued its own foreign policy, seeking to maintain autonomy and strengthen ties with Russia. However, the proposal to include the region in Moldova's EU referendum could be seen as an attempt to expand the possibilities for political dialogue between the parties.
Chisinau has not yet made any comments on this.
