Russian Defense Minister: heavy ICBM "Sarmat" will take up combat duty in 2022

Heavy ICBM "Sarmat" will take up combat duty next year.

The head of the Russian defense department, Sergei Shoigu, announced that the introduction of the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile into the country's armament could be implemented as early as next year.

According to Sergei Shoigu, flight tests of the Russian heavy ICBM "Sarmat" have not yet begun, however, apparently, problems with them should not arise - they will be completed in 2022. After that, the missile will be adopted by the country and put on alert. The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation did not name the place of deployment of the Sarmat missiles, however, today it is known about at least three potential areas of the Sarmat deployment.

“Flight tests [will begin] this year, and should be completed in 2022, and in 2022, our first regiment is to enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces. I won't say a specific place, it's not far away ", - said Sergey Shoigu.

According to previously reported information, the capabilities of the Sarmat ICBM are such that this missile can successfully deliver a warhead, including a nuclear one, to any point on the planet, and the use of combat maneuvering units prevents the enemy from intercepting the missile and repelling the attack.
