On the night of March 24, 2025, Russian air defense forces thwarted another attempt to attack unmanned aerial vehicles on the country's territory, destroying a total of 28 drones. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry in its morning report, specifying that the operation was carried out in several regions where air defense systems were operating in high alert mode. The greatest enemy activity was recorded in the Bryansk region, where 12 devices were neutralized, which is almost half of the total number of drones shot down.
In addition to the Bryansk region, air defense forces operated in other border and central regions, although the exact locations of the destruction of the remaining 14 drones were not specified in the official statement. All targets were promptly detected and eliminated before they could cause damage to infrastructure or the population. At the moment, there is no information about casualties or destruction, which indicates the successful operation of defense systems.
The Bryansk region, located near the border with Ukraine, is not the first to become the main target of such attacks. Its strategic location and proximity to conflict zones make the region vulnerable to enemy actions using drones for reconnaissance and strikes. Experts note that the massive use of drones has become a characteristic feature of recent months, repelling attempts to carry out pinpoint strikes on military and industrial facilities deep in Russian territory.
Analysts attribute the increase in drone activity to the enemy's attempts to test the resilience of Russia's air defenses before possible larger operations. In the first half of March 2025, more than 150 UAVs were destroyed over Russian territory, a significant portion of which were in border regions such as Bryansk, Belgorod, and Kursk Oblasts. Last week, on March 17, the Defense Ministry reported the neutralization of 13 drones over Astrakhan Oblast and several more over Kalmykia and Krasnodar Krai, which confirms the trend toward expanding the geography of attacks.
