The Russian Ministry of Defense answered the question about the suicide of the military blogger "Murza"

State Duma deputy Mikhail Delyagin published the response of the Russian Ministry of Defense to his request about the suicide of military blogger Andrei “Murza” Morozov. According to the document, no criminal case was opened regarding Morozov’s incitement to suicide. At the same time, officials of the military unit where the blogger served were brought to disciplinary liability for omissions in organizing psychological work, measures to prevent suicide and identify suicidal tendencies. At the same time, the response from the Russian Military Department emphasizes that the facts that were described by “Murz” in his suicide letter were not confirmed.

Andrei Morozov, known for his critical publications on the activities of the armed forces and the organization of military service, committed suicide in February of this year. His death caused a wide public outcry, as in his suicide letter the blogger accused the command of persecution and ill-treatment. Morozov also emphasized that many of his colleagues suffer from depression and suicidal tendencies due to the lack of support and unprofessional work of military psychologists.

The Ministry of Defense in its response stated that the investigation did not reveal any evidence to support the arguments set out in Morozov’s letter. However, the department recognized the existence of shortcomings in the organization of work with personnel and took measures to improve psychological support for military personnel. Officials of the military unit where the blogger served were brought to disciplinary liability, but specific measures and the names of the perpetrators were not disclosed.
