On the night of October 6, 2025, Russian air defense forces repelled a massive attack by 251 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that originated in the Black Sea. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported this, specifying that the interceptions occurred in several regions of the country.
The main strikes hit the Black Sea, where 62 drones were destroyed, and the Republic of Crimea, where 40 were neutralized. Thirty-four drones were shot down in the Kursk region, 30 in Belgorod, 20 in Nizhny Novgorod, 17 in Voronezh, and 11 in Krasnodar Krai. Individual drones were also intercepted in the Bryansk, Tula, Ryazan, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kaluga, Tambov, Oryol, Lipetsk, and Moscow regions. In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the destruction of one drone as it approached the city, noting the absence of casualties and significant damage. Emergency services are working at the debris sites.
The main attack originated from the Black Sea, from where, according to military reports, the drones headed toward Crimea and coastal facilities in the Krasnodar Krai, including Tuapse and Sochi. In Feodosia, residents reported explosions and a large fire, presumably caused by the drone strikes. In Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, eyewitnesses reported a fire at a business, while in the Belgorod Oblast, the strike resulted in power outages for 40 people. Explosions were also heard in the Voronezh Oblast, including Borisoglebsk, but authorities noted no serious consequences.
