Russian Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 57 drones

On the night of March 19, 2025, Russian air defense forces repelled a massive attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over several regions of the country. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 57 drones, presumably launched from Ukrainian territory, were destroyed. The greatest activity was recorded in the border regions of Kursk and Oryol, where 35 and 13 drones were neutralized, respectively. The prompt actions of the air defense minimizing the threat to infrastructure and the population, but in the Krasnodar Territory the attack led to serious consequences.

Kuban authorities reported a fire at one of the oil depots caused by the fall of a downed drone. The incident occurred in the area of a large fuel and energy complex facility. Fire crews and emergency services immediately arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire. According to preliminary data, there are no victims or injured, but the exact extent of the damage has not yet been specified.

The drone attack also affected other regions of Russia. The Defense Ministry noted that the remaining nine drones were shot down over territories far from the active combat zone. Incidents with drone debris falling on infrastructure facilities once again demonstrate the growing nature of such attacks.

According to information obtained from open sources, in recent weeks, cases of using UAVs to strike Russian regions have become more frequent. Thus, on March 16, in the Kursk region, damage to power lines was recorded after a drone attack, and in the Oryol region, attempts to attack fuel infrastructure facilities were previously reported. Experts attribute the increase in activity to the enemy’s attempts to disable key elements of the energy and transport systems. Against this background, security measures have been strengthened in the border regions, including additional patrols and modernization of detection systems.
