On the night of March 13, Russian air defense forces repelled a massive attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that engulfed several regions of the country. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 77 drones were intercepted and destroyed, the largest number of which were in border and central regions.
The Bryansk and Kaluga regions bore the brunt of the attack, with 30 and 25 drones shot down, respectively. In the Kaluga region, the attack had local consequences. According to the region's governor, Vladislav Shapsha, in the Dzerzhinsky district, debris from one of the drones caused a fire in a technical building on the territory of an industrial enterprise. The fire was quickly extinguished, which minimized the damage. As a result of the incident, one of the night shift employees was slightly injured. The victim received immediate medical assistance; his life is not in danger.
In addition, in the Khvastovichsky District of the Kaluga Region, debris from another drone damaged a communications tower and a power line. Operational groups are working at the drone crash sites to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate restoration work. According to preliminary data, casualties and significant destruction of infrastructure in the region were avoided.
The drone attack affected not only the Kaluga and Bryansk regions. According to the Defense Ministry, six drones were destroyed in the Kursk and Voronezh regions, and five in the Rostov and Belgorod regions. In the Bryansk region, despite the large number of intercepted UAVs, serious consequences were avoided thanks to the prompt actions of the air defense. In other regions, no significant destruction was recorded either, but local authorities continue to monitor the situation.
