On January 17, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the liberation of four settlements in the Kursk region: Alexandria, Leonidovo, Russkoye Porechnoye and Kruglenkoye. These villages, located in the Sudzhansky district, were previously under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
According to the department, units of the "North" group of troops carried out successful offensive actions, during which they inflicted significant losses on the enemy. As a result of the operation, Ukrainian formations were forced to retreat, leaving their positions in the specified settlements.
Earlier, in December 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense repeatedly reported on fighting in these areas. Thus, on December 26, 2024, the department reported on the continuation of hostilities in the areas of Alexandria, Viktorovka, Kruglenky, Lebedevka, Leonidovo and other settlements of the Sudzhansky district.
The liberation of these settlements is of strategic importance for ensuring the security of Russia's border territories. The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, has been repeatedly subjected to shelling and sabotage attacks by Ukrainian armed formations. Establishing control over Alexandriy, Leonidovo, Russkoye Porechny and Kruglenkiy will strengthen the defensive lines and reduce the threat to civilians in the region.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the information about the loss of control over the specified settlements.
