In the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) used chemical weapons, as a result of which more than 20 people were injured. This was reported by the Chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov. According to him, this incident is another fact of Kiev's violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
The general noted that during military operations and acts of sabotage, the Ukrainian side regularly uses chemical substances, including toxic agents. In total, during the special military operation, more than 400 cases of the use of such substances as chloroacetophenone and Bi-Zet, as well as chloropicrin and hydrocyanic acid by Ukrainian formations were recorded. Examples of the use of chemical weapons were noted in the area of Donetsk, Artemovsk, Gorlovka, Kremennaya, as well as in the Krasnolimansk and Boguslavsk directions.
It is reported that the use of 155-mm DM-105 cluster munitions containing toxic substances in Sudzha was particularly resonant. These munitions contained a metal chloride mixture, which served as a means of camouflage. Analysis of samples conducted in an accredited laboratory of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) showed that the cause of the injuries was the inhalation of an aerosol containing chlorine and toxic substances with asphyxiating effects.
Kirillov also noted that the Ukrainian side uses chemical weapons not only on the battlefield, but also to carry out terrorist attacks against Russian citizens and public opinion leaders. One example was the sabotage using thallium compounds recorded in August 2024.
In addition, a chemical laboratory was discovered on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) where poisonous substances, including hydrocyanic acid, were produced. This incident occurred in the Avdiivka area, where a laboratory for creating a general-purpose poison was located.
