On the night of February 17, 2025, Russian air defense forces repelled a massive attack by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the southern regions of the country. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 90 drones were intercepted and destroyed, of which 38 were over the waters of the Sea of Azov, 24 over the Krasnodar Territory, and 15 over Crimea.
The Krasnodar region was particularly hard hit. In the village of Severskaya, UAV debris fell near the Ilsky oil refinery, causing a fire. As a result of the attack, 12 houses were damaged in the village of Ilsky, mostly with broken windows. A woman was injured and received medical assistance.
In Slavyansk-na-Kubani, drone debris fell on private homes, injuring a four-year-old girl who was taken to hospital. Local residents report that the sounds of explosions were also heard in the Kavkazsky District.
At the same time, the airspace defense and electronic warfare system "Dome of Donbass" thwarted 193 attacks by Ukrainian UAVs over Donetsk and Makeyevka. According to the regional FSB Directorate, over the past week "Dome of Donbass" detected and intercepted these drones, preventing damage to civilians and infrastructure.
Experts note that the increasing frequency of UAV attacks on Russia's border regions indicates the Ukrainian side's desire to damage both military and civilian facilities. In response, Russian forces continue to improve their air defense systems and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
