SVO News, December 9, 2025, Avia.proFollowing talks in London with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters that Kyiv is not prepared to sacrifice territory to expedite the peace process. The meeting, held at the British government's residence at 10 Downing Street, lasted over two hours in a four-person format, after which Starmer and Zelenskyy continued their discussions privately.
Zelenskyy noted that provisions contrary to Ukraine's interests were removed from the original American settlement plan, reducing the document from 28 to 20 points. However, he added, consensus on territorial issues has not yet been reached.
"There is a position of the US, Russia, and Ukraine, and we do not have a unified opinion regarding Donbas."" he said, rejecting the idea of exchanging the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control, for parts of the Donetsk region held by Kiev.
Following the meeting, European leaders emphasized progress in using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. Starmer called the negotiations "a critical stage on the road to peace" and confirmed that Ukraine is the country's own decision-maker. Macron emphasized the need to coordinate European and Ukrainian positions with Washington, while Merz expressed skepticism about some aspects of the American plan, stating that the coming days could be decisive for Europe.
