A massive fire has destroyed three buildings at a plastics recycling plant in Tennessee.

A major fire broke out at the Sigma Renew 360 plastics recycling plant, part of Sigma Plastics Group, in the US state of Tennessee. The blaze occurred on May 8 in Henry County, near the town of McKenzie.

According to local authorities, the fire completely destroyed three buildings at the plant. The fire was classified as a level 4 fire out of five. Fire crews from more than 20 agencies, as well as an Air National Guard helicopter, responded to the scene.

According to preliminary police reports, the fire was caused by the burning of pallets outside—a routine process at the plant. Strong winds caused the flames to spread to the production area, causing a major blaze.

Thick black smoke from burning plastic was visible for several kilometers. Local authorities declared a self-isolation regime for residents of nearby areas and advised against unnecessary outdoor activities, especially for those with respiratory illnesses.

Eight people were evacuated from the plant; none required medical assistance. There were no reports of fatalities or injuries.
