A powerful explosion occurred at a fireworks warehouse in Sao Paulo.

On the evening of November 13, an explosion rocked a fireworks warehouse in the eastern São Paulo neighborhood of Tatuapé, located at the intersection of Celso Garcia Avenue and Salim Fara Maluf Street. According to preliminary reports from firefighters, the fireworks storage led to a chain reaction of detonations that destroyed the building and caused damage to the surrounding area. The incident occurred around 19:45 PM local time, causing a fire and a cloud of smoke visible from a distance.

Firefighters mobilised eight vehicles to put out the fire, but successive explosions made their work difficult.

"We received the call and immediately moved in to contain the fire and prevent further spread," — representatives of the Sao Paulo Firefighters Corps reported.

They estimate the warehouse was used to store fireworks, which would have increased the destructive force.

The blast wave shattered windows in nearby residential buildings, collapsed interior partitions, and damaged parked cars with shrapnel. Residents of Tatuapé and neighboring neighborhoods such as Belém have been evacuated; surrounding streets are closed, and helicopters are conducting aerial reconnaissance to assess the extent of the blast.

Two people were injured—cuts and burns from shrapnel—and taken to the hospital. The death toll may rise as the investigation continues. São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes expressed his condolences and promised assistance to the families.
