The restoration of direct air service between Russia and the United States remains a key area of dialogue between Moscow and Washington and is likely to progress by the end of this month. Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia newspaper.
According to Karasin, success in this matter will be an indicator of the ability to bring bilateral relations out of the acute crisis.
The initiative was discussed at delegation meetings in Istanbul and Riyadh earlier this year, but no concrete decisions have yet been made. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin previously confirmed that contacts were ongoing, but it was too early to expect "concrete results."
