Moscow may return to the topic of the emergence of the largest military base in Belarus

The largest foreign Russian military base may appear on the territory of Belarus.

Against the background of the events that took place in Belarus at the end of last year, Minsk and Moscow can discuss this year the appearance on the territory of Belarus of one of the largest Russian foreign military bases, on which it is planned to base fighter, bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, tactical missile weapons, and probably even modern Russian tanks T-14 "Armata".

At the end of last year, the Belarusian defense department and the country's leadership announced that the West poses a very serious threat not only to Belarus, but also to the Union State, which in turn forces Belarus to strengthen its defense capability. For obvious reasons, Russia will not supply weapons to Belarus on a gratuitous basis, however, in the framework of previous meetings it was assumed that a Russian military base could appear on the territory of Belarus, which would provide protection for both Belarus itself and the Union State ...

“Chronic economic difficulties of Belarus and Western sanctions against its authorities make Russia an uncontested supplier of weapons for the Belarusian army. This aggravates the military-strategic and geopolitical dependence of Minsk on Moscow. Almost all the participants in the discussion agreed that from the point of view of Russia's interests it would be preferable to supply weapons not for the needs of the Belarusian army, but to equip the military base of the Union State on the territory of Belarus. It could accommodate air-launched missile systems as part of MiG-31K fighters and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, as well as the latest electronic warfare equipment. As an option, the experts considered the possibility of creating an armored strike fist on this base, equipped with the latest Russian T-14 Armata tanks as a counterweight to the American military contingents in Poland and Lithuania "- сообщает the publication “Belarusian News”.

Nevertheless, as experts emphasize, the Belarusian authorities have not yet been able to establish themselves as a reliable partner, in this connection, the supply of weapons can affect the security of Russia itself, at least until Minsk proves its loyalty.
