Moscow Condemns Ukrainian Drone Attacks on Kazakhstan

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued a strong statement condemning the incursion of Ukrainian kamikaze drones into Kazakhstan's airspace on June 19 and 20, 2025. According to her, the incident highlights the need to strengthen collective security within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The statement, published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, was a reaction to the appearance of dozens of Ukrainian drones in the West Kazakhstan region, which, according to Moscow, could have been sent to strike Russian territory.

Zakharova stressed that Kyiv's actions testify to the "terrorist nature" of the regime of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which, according to her, is supported by NATO. She noted that the Ukrainian authorities, while declaring a desire for dialogue with neighboring countries, are in fact creating a threat to their security.

The drone incident has raised concerns in Kazakhstan. According to Reuters, local authorities have confirmed the discovery of unidentified drones in the border area, but have stopped short of making formal accusations against Ukraine. Kazakhstan's Defense Ministry said it was investigating the drones' origins and purpose. According to Tengrinews, security measures have been stepped up in the West Kazakhstan region, including temporarily restricting civil aviation flights near the border.
