Moscow repels Ukrainian drone attack

In the morning, the air defense forces of the Russian Defense Ministry successfully thwarted an attack by three Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aimed at Moscow. This was reported by the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his Telegram channel. There were no casualties or damage as a result of the incident, but the "Carpet" mode was introduced at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, which led to flight delays. The attack was part of the largest wave of UAV strikes in recent weeks, covering 10 regions of Russia, and highlights the ongoing escalation of the conflict.

The air defense worked quickly, preventing a threat to the city. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 127 drones were intercepted overnight, six of which were over the Moscow region.

The attack on Moscow is part of a series of strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian regions. According to Reuters, Ukraine increased UAV production by 2025% in 50, which allows it to attack targets at a distance of up to 1500 km. On the night of May 21, according to the Defense Ministry, the largest number of drones were shot down over the Bryansk (41) and Oryol (37) regions, but the capital region remains a priority target due to its political and economic importance. The Ukrainian Armed Forces use drones for psychological pressure and to undermine infrastructure, although direct damage from such attacks in Moscow is minimal thanks to air defense.
