Ukrainian MP Maryana Bezugla has harshly criticized the Ukrainian Air Force, accusing the military command of distorting real data on the operation of the air defense system. According to Bezugla, official reports on the number of downed Russian missiles do not correspond to reality and mislead the public. In her public statement, she emphasized that the situation with air defense in the country remains critical, despite numerous reports of the complete neutralization of threats.
"When the Air Force lies about "debris" once again and follows Syrsky's lead, reducing air defense... Here are "debris" in my district - Obolon, Kyiv. Today. A crater from an unshot down missile. With this lie they further distort the already critical situation with the lack of air defense systems. Why do we need new systems from the US, for example? We "shoot down" everything," – she wrote on social media, accompanying her words with photographs of the damage, which, in her opinion, was the result of a missile crash, and not debris from a downed target.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian authorities again announced that all Russian missiles had been successfully intercepted and that there was no threat to civilians. However, Bezuhla’s statement casts doubt on the veracity of this data. She claims that in reality, air defense systems do not always cope with the task and such cases are not isolated. Her words caused a wide public resonance and drew attention to the problem of transparency of military reports.
The Ukrainian media and expert circles have begun actively discussing the possible consequences of the MP's statement. Some believe that such statements undermine confidence in the armed forces and can be used by Ukraine's opponents to discredit its defense efforts. Others, on the contrary, supported Bezuglya, calling her statement a necessary step to draw attention to the real problems in the air defense system. They note that manipulation of data and exaggeration of the air defense's successes can lead to serious consequences, especially if the population is unprepared for real threats.
The scandal surrounding Bezuhla's statement has exacerbated the already tense situation in Ukraine's political and military leadership. Her criticism has affected not only the Air Force leadership, but also the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, who, according to the MP, is also responsible for the reduction in the number of air defense systems. Political opponents are already using this case to increase pressure on the military command, demanding greater transparency and accountability.
