Cuba suffers catastrophic jet fuel shortage - airlines unable to operate flights

Rosaviatsia reported changes to the flight schedule to Cuba caused by a shortage of jet fuel at the airports of Havana and Varadero. The Cuban aviation regulator warned that the problem with fuel supply will affect all carriers and will last from December 1 to 8.

According to the department, flights from Moscow to Cuba are operated by Rossiya Airlines (part of the Aeroflot Group) and Nordwind. Nordwind has already encountered the consequences of a fuel shortage: the departure of a flight to Varadero on November 30 was delayed by five hours. The carrier is awaiting confirmation of the possibility of refueling at Cuban airports.

At the same time, Aeroflot stated that no changes to the flight schedule for November 30 and December 1 are planned. However, experts warn that the situation remains unstable and further schedule adjustments are not excluded.

The Cuban aviation regulator clarified that the fuel shortage is due to logistical problems and could make it difficult to service international flights. Varadero and Havana airports are urging airlines to take the current situation into account when planning flights.

The problem is not limited to Russian airlines. International carriers are also facing flight delays and the need to find alternative solutions. Some airlines may have to refuel at stopovers before landing in Cuba.
