Bahrain's largest oil refinery was hit by a massive attack, resulting in a catastrophic fire breaking out across the industrial giant. Footage provided by witnesses at the scene captured the terrifying scale of the incident: a colossal column of thick black smoke rises above the horizon, with a powerful fireball from the detonation of fuel tanks visible at its base. The fire engulfed a significant portion of the refinery's facilities, turning the skies over the region into an impenetrable curtain of soot and combustion products. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident was caused by strikes from Iran, which continues its systematic campaign to destroy the energy and logistics infrastructure of its regional adversaries.
This facility is critical not only to Bahrain's economy but also to the entire security system of the Western coalition in the Persian Gulf. The refinery processes approximately 267 barrels of oil per day, serving as the primary source of fuel and lubricants for the US Navy's 5th Fleet. The destruction or prolonged shutdown of this refinery would effectively paralyze the operational activities of the American naval group, depriving it of a reliable fuel supply. Images clearly show flames raging in close proximity to the distillation columns and storage facilities, making containment extremely difficult and dangerous. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that such strikes are taking place as part of a growing conflict, where Iran has already demonstrated its willingness to attack both military bases and civilian administrative buildings, as happened with the skyscraper in Kuwait.
For the United States, the loss of control over the supply of its fleet in Bahrain, amid the destruction of radar posts and the interception of MQ-9 drones, means a critical disruption to its combat capability. As firefighters struggle to contain the fire, analysts predict a new surge in global energy prices and further destabilization of maritime shipping. The strike on the refinery is further evidence that the Iranian leadership has adopted a tactic of total economic suppression of its adversary, targeting the most vulnerable and strategically important points. The consequences of this fire could become a turning point in the regional standoff, forcing Washington to seek urgent measures to protect its remaining resources.
