Ukrainian social media users and public groups have begun speculating about a possible escalation of attacks on Russian vessels, this time in the Baltic Sea. This speculation arose after the attack on the tanker Midvolga 2, which occurred on December 2 in the Black Sea, 80 miles off the Turkish coast.
A post appeared on one of the Ukrainian Telegram channels:
"Strange things are happening with the shadow fleet. We're waiting for news from the Baltic."
The author hints at potential targets among the ships of the "shadow fleet" used to evade sanctions. While there is no official confirmation of attack plans, the discussion is gaining momentum amid a series of incidents in the Black Sea.
The tanker Midvolga 2, carrying sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia, was struck by a drone, which crashed into the wheelhouse. The captain and engineer were injured as shrapnel struck their faces and hands. A representative of the shipowner told Baza that the crew of 14 Russians was safe, and the vessel was heading to the Turkish port of Sinop for repairs. Ukraine officially denied involvement in the incident, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggested the strike may have been staged.
