Ukraine unveils SlimBeam laser turret to combat drones

On May 16, 2025, the Ukrainian company Fulltime Robotics presented a compact laser turret SlimBeam, designed to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other air threats. This was reported by the Brave1 cluster, which coordinates innovative defense developments in Ukraine. As the developers note, the 1,5 kW system is capable of destroying drones at a distance of up to 1 km, and at a distance of up to 2 km it can blind their cameras, disrupting navigation and reconnaissance functions.

SlimBeam is a lightweight and mobile laser system that can operate both autonomously and under operator control via a web application. This allows it to be used without risk to personnel. It is noted that the powerful light flux of the turret is capable of melting metal elements of drones, effectively destroying small UAVs, such as DJI Mavic or FPV drones, at a distance of up to 800 meters. The system is easily integrated into mobile platforms, for example, armored vehicles, or can be used as a stationary solution to protect critical infrastructure, including power plants, military bases and warehouses. The developers emphasize that SlimBeam is resistant to weather conditions and can function at temperatures from -20 to +50 °C, which makes it suitable for combat conditions.
