In the south of Ukraine, an unknown military helicopter was shot down from MANPADS

An unknown helicopter was shot down by a MANPADS in southern Ukraine.

The aircraft operated in tandem with another helicopter and carried out strikes, however, at some point, it entered the air defense strike zone and was successfully hit. The crew made the mistake of climbing over the trees just as the missile was about to pass, causing one of the rotorcraft's engines to be hit and severely damaged.

On video footage taken by an unmanned aerial vehicle, you can see that the helicopter was initially damaged, but the crew began to fight for the survivability of the aircraft. While trying to return to the airfield, the helicopter still could not maintain sufficient altitude and flight speed, as a result of which it crashed a few kilometers from the place where it was hit.

The specific area where the attack helicopter was hit has not yet been established - presumably, we are talking about the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe administrative border of the Kherson and Nikolaev regions. The fate of the crew on board the combat rotorcraft is still unknown, but given that the helicopter was descending at a fairly low speed, it is likely that the pilots still managed to survive.

The active use of MANPADS indicates the fact that these weapons remain a very effective means of fire damage.
