On the night of March 13, 2025, residents of Kyiv witnessed an unusual phenomenon: a bright glowing object flew in the sky above the capital of Ukraine, after which a powerful explosion was heard. This was reported by Ukrainian media, citing numerous eyewitness accounts. Videos were distributed on social networks, which captured the moment the object appeared, accompanied by a flash and a loud sound. The event caused a strong reaction among users, and experts and authorities began to clarify the nature of the incident, putting forward several versions.
According to local media, the main hypothesis remains the fall of a meteorite. Residents report a bright glow, typical of a cosmic body burning in the atmosphere, and the sound of the explosion is explained by breaking the sound barrier. Some observers noted that the object moved along a trajectory typical of meteors and disappeared shortly after the flash. However, alternative assumptions have appeared on social networks, including a version of a strike by a Russian hypersonic missile "Oreshnik". This theory, however, has not found official confirmation. Military sources have not yet recorded signs of a missile attack on Kyiv, and radar systems did not detect high-speed targets over the city at the time of the incident.
However, the version with the Oreshnik, a missile that Russia first used in November 2024 against the Dnieper, continues to be discussed. Vladimir Putin then called it invulnerable to air defense, which increased interest in this topic.
