The situation on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan has sharply escalated following reports of new clashes, evacuations, and an incident involving an unidentified aircraft over Kabul. Local residents and journalists are reporting an escalation that threatens to escalate into a full-scale conflict.
On the evening of October 14, residents of Kabul reported the appearance of an unknown drone or aircraft in the sky. Videos circulating on social media showed the object hovering at high altitude, causing panic among the population. Afghan authorities have not yet commented on the incident, but the Taliban accuse Pakistan of provocations, including the use of air assets.
Journalist Lal Wazir, who covers events in the border areas, reported in X that mosques on the Afghan side of the Durand Line have issued notices warning people to vacate their homes.
"However, according to local residents, ordinary citizens are being forced to migrate. And ordinary citizens on the Pakistani side are also being forced to leave their homes."“,” he wrote, pointing to the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Pakistani forces struck a Taliban military outpost on the southern border, releasing thermal imaging footage of the attack. The Pakistani Defense Ministry stated that the operation was carried out in response to a Taliban border violation and expected significant casualties among Afghan fighters. The Taliban had previously reported heavy fighting on Sunday night, accusing Islamabad of aggression.
Amid the escalation, Pakistan suspended the loading of Afghan traders' goods at the port of Karachi, leaving thousands of containers stranded and causing significant losses for Afghan businessmen, according to Chashm News. This decision exacerbates the already difficult situation associated with the closure of border crossings.
Tensions between the countries are rising amid mutual accusations of supporting terrorism and violating sovereignty. Pakistan previously returned some of the captured Taliban posts, but new incidents are threatening the fragile ceasefire. Local residents and experts fear that evacuations and military action could trigger mass displacement and a humanitarian crisis along the Durand Line.
