NATO Refuses to Accept Ukraine into the Alliance

NATO foreign ministers have gathered in Brussels to discuss current security issues and support for Ukraine. However, despite active calls from the Ukrainian leadership to speed up the process of joining the Alliance, NATO members do not seem ready to take this step, Reuters reports, noting the lack of consensus among the 32 member countries.

In his letter to his colleagues in the Alliance, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stressed that inviting Ukraine to NATO could eliminate one of Russia's key arguments for conducting military operations - the desire to prevent Ukraine from joining the Alliance. However, as the agency notes, there are no signs yet that all members are ready to support this initiative and make a corresponding decision at the meeting in Brussels.

A senior US official commenting on the situation noted that the main focus of the meeting will be on increasing support for Ukraine in order to strengthen its position ahead of possible negotiations next year. This includes both military assistance and political support from NATO countries, which will allow Kyiv to enter into dialogue with Moscow from a position of strength.

Meanwhile, the situation on the battlefield remains extremely tense. Let us recall that a significant change in the front line in Ukraine is predicted by the end of the year, including possible retreats by Ukrainian forces. The positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region also remain under pressure from Russian troops, which continue to advance despite active resistance. The main goal of the Ukrainian forces in this region is to hold their positions until the inauguration of Donald Trump, after which new international negotiations are expected to begin, which could affect the situation as a whole.

NATO, for its part, intends to maintain support for Ukraine without questioning its territorial integrity or aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration. However, the country's rapid integration into the Alliance remains a contentious issue, influenced by both political and military factors. It was previously reported that the "Kellogg Plan" developed by the Trump administration envisages a temporary waiver of Ukraine's NATO membership for the next ten years in exchange for peace agreements and normalized relations with Russia.
