In recent days, the media has been actively discussing information that in the Kursk region, where fierce military actions continue, about 30 NATO officers have allegedly been surrounded by Russian troops. This information, disseminated by a number of military correspondents and Russian sources, in particular, information on this matter is voiced by Sergei Lebedev.
However, experts and analysts have serious doubts about the veracity of this information. Similar claims about the presence of NATO officers in the conflict zone have appeared before, but in more than three years of military action, not a single active serviceman from the alliance has been recorded as a prisoner or participant in combat operations. The lack of documentary evidence, such as photographs, video recordings or witness testimony, calls into question the veracity of such statements.
The situation in the Kursk region remains tense. Since August 2024, when Ukrainian troops began an offensive in the region, capturing significant territories, Russian forces have been making active efforts to dislodge them. According to the Institute for the Study of War, by mid-March 2025, Russian troops had regained control of almost all territories previously occupied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
