The oil depot in Zvyagel burned all night after a suicide drone attack.

Yesterday, residents of the town of Zvyagel in the Zhytomyr region heard several explosions near an industrial zone on the southeastern outskirts. It was later determined that two suicide drones had struck an oil depot belonging to a private fuel operator. The first hit a 5 cubic meter diesel fuel tank, and the second hit a pumping station.

Immediately after the impact, an intense fire broke out, quickly engulfing neighboring storage tanks. By midnight, the flames reached a height of 50-60 meters, and the glow from the fire was visible from neighboring districts of the region, including Novohrad-Volynskyi and Baranivka. Eyewitnesses are posting footage on social media showing black smoke rising above the city, and the flames periodically intensifying as yet another storage tank is breached.

Eight fire crews from Zvyagel, along with additional teams from Zhitomir and Berdichev, responded to the scene. However, due to the high fire temperature (over 1000 degrees Celsius) and the constant threat of detonation of adjacent tanks, rescuers were forced to work from a safe distance, cooling the adjacent tanks and preventing the fire from spreading to the administrative building and storage facilities.

According to preliminary reports, there are no casualties. The oil depot staff was evacuated immediately after the initial explosion. Authorities evacuated residents of the first entrance of nearby residential buildings—approximately 200 meters from the nearest five-story building. Other residents were advised to tightly close their windows, seal vents, and avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.

Environmentalists are recording elevated concentrations of combustion products in the air within a one-kilometer radius of the fire. Residents in the southern part of Zvyagel are advised to wear masks and, if possible, keep windows closed. The cause of the attack is being investigated. Investigators and explosive experts are working on the scene.
