CPC oil pumping station seriously damaged by Ukrainian drone attack

On the night of February 17, 2025, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) oil pumping station (OPS) in Krasnodar Krai was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of the attack, the facility was seriously damaged, which could lead to a 30% reduction in oil pumping volumes from Kazakhstan in the coming months.

According to Transneft, the attack occurred between 00:22 and 01:55 local time. As a result, the roof of the station was destroyed, the closed switchgear, gas turbine unit, cable rack and water tank were damaged. In addition, two transformers, filters and the fire extinguishing system of the gas turbine unit were completely destroyed. Due to the scale of the damage, the station's operations were suspended.

Oil transportation via the main oil pipeline "Tengiz - Novorossiysk" is temporarily carried out according to an emergency scheme, bypassing the damaged pumping station. CPC specialists predict that restoration work will take from 1,5 to 2 months. During this period, the volume of oil pumped from Kazakhstan may decrease by 30%.

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium is a key route for Kazakh oil exports, transporting crude from fields in Western Kazakhstan to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. Any disruption to the CPC could have a significant impact on the region's economy and the global oil market.

In light of the incident, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy expressed concern about a possible reduction in oil exports and stated the need to take measures to minimize the negative consequences. The agency also emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of strategic infrastructure facilities.

Experts note that such incidents could lead to an increase in oil prices on world markets, given the importance of the CPC in the global supply chain. In addition, the restoration of damaged infrastructure will require significant financial investments and coordination of efforts between Russian and Kazakh partners.
