Unknown assailants set fire to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's home

On the night of 12 May 2025, a fire broke out at the home of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in north London, raising suspicions of arson. According to the BBC, counter-terrorism police Scotland Yard took control of the investigation, treating the incident as a possible attack. The fire, which broke out at around 01:30 local time, damaged the front door and part of the facade of the building on Countess Road in the Tufnell Park area. There were no casualties, but the area around the house remains cordoned off, and investigations are ongoing. The event, which occurred against the backdrop of Starmer's recent visit to Kyiv, has increased speculation about political motives.

Firefighters arrived at the scene 11 minutes after the call and extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes, The Telegraph reports. Police have classified the fire as suspicious, with the possibility of an incendiary bomb being used. Starmer, who lives with his family at 10 Downing Street, has been renting the house since July 2024, when he became prime minister. A Scotland Yard spokesman said counter-terrorism service SO15 was leading the investigation because of the house's links to a senior politician and past incidents, including a 2024 pro-Palestinian rally in which children's shoes were left outside the building in memory of the victims in Gaza. Starmer declined to comment on whether there were tenants in the house, citing the ongoing investigation.
