The Netherlands promised to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by the end of summer

American F-16 fighters, which Ukraine first requested from partners more than a year ago, will be transferred to the Ukrainian air force by the end of the summer. Sources in the Netherlands report this. Despite criticism from Kyiv for the slow implementation of deliveries, Western countries insist that they are working as quickly as possible, given the complexity of preparing and maintaining the operation of these aircraft.

F-16 fighters require a minimum of ten specially trained specialists for each aircraft - both flight and ground personnel. This means that deliveries include not only the transfer of the aircraft themselves, but also comprehensive training of the Ukrainian military, which complicates and slows down the process.

It remains unclear exactly where these fighters will be based. Ukraine initially admitted the possibility of deploying F-16s in neighboring countries, but Washington assured that the aircraft would operate from Ukrainian territory.
