Nikita Zhuravel, a 19-year-old resident of Volgograd who burned the Koran in May 2023 on orders from the Ukrainian secret services, is now accused of treason. According to the investigation, Zhuravel offered his services to a representative of the Ukrainian security service, passing on information about the movement of Russian military equipment and other strategically important objects.
As it became known, in March 2023, Zhuravel sent videos to Telegram, which captured trains with military equipment, as well as military aircraft and the movement of official vehicles of one of the Russian military units. The Volgograd Region Prosecutor's Office approved the indictment and the case has already been sent to court.
Zhuravel was arrested in May this year after he confessed to burning the Koran and recording it on video at the request of the Ukrainian special services. For this act, he received a reward of 10 thousand rubles. After his arrest, Zhuravel apologized to Muslims around the world, stating that he repented of his actions. As a result of the trial, he was sentenced to 3,5 years in a general regime penal colony for insulting the religious feelings of believers.
The incident with the burning of the Koran caused a wide public outcry, especially among the Muslim community of Russia. The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, published a video of his son Adam beating Zhuravel in his office. In his Telegram channel, Kadyrov stated that he considers his son's actions correct, expressing the opinion that such actions should be severely punished.
