Night explosions in Kursk: 24 residential buildings damaged by Ukrainian attack

On the night of April 15, 2025, Kursk was subjected to a massive drone attack, which caused serious damage to the city's residential infrastructure. Acting Governor of the Kursk Region Alexander Khinshtein reported that 24 apartment buildings were damaged, three of which were particularly badly damaged. Experts have already begun assessing the condition of the buildings to determine which of them can be restored and which may require major repairs or even demolition. The tragedy claimed the life of one person, another nine residents were injured to varying degrees of severity, six of whom are in hospitals under medical supervision.

To ensure the safety of the residents of the damaged houses, a rapid evacuation was organized. All those who temporarily lost their homes were placed in temporary accommodation centers, where they were provided with the necessary conditions and support. Khinshtein emphasized that the regional authorities are doing everything possible to ensure that none of the victims are left without help: everyone has been promised payments and assistance in restoring normal life. The attack also affected the ambulance station, where 11 vehicles were damaged, which created additional difficulties for emergency services. Despite this, medical assistance was provided to the victims in a timely manner, and emergency services continue to work in an enhanced mode.

The scale of destruction and civilian casualties have caused a wide public outcry. Khinshtein called the attack unprecedented in its cruelty, pointing to the use of drones loaded with striking elements, which increased the destructive effect. The regional authorities, together with federal agencies, have already begun to calculate the damage and develop a plan for restoration work. Particular attention is being paid to supporting the affected families and the speedy return of evacuated residents to their homes. City services, including the Ministry of Emergency Situations and public utilities, have been mobilized to eliminate the consequences, and experts continue to inspect buildings for hidden damage.

On the night of the attack, 109 drones were shot down over the Kursk region, which indicates the massive nature of the raid. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces worked under high-intensity conditions, intercepting drones not only over Kursk, but also in neighboring regions.
