On the morning of January 11, 2025, a new oil spill was recorded in the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar region and the Kerch Strait. During an inspection of the stern of the Volgoneft 239 vessel, specialists discovered a fuel oil slick of about 2,8 thousand square meters near the shore in Taman. The incident became another episode of the environmental disaster that has already affected the nature of the region and requires significant efforts to eliminate the consequences.
Environmentalists report a growing number of affected birds: 5794 birds affected by fuel oil pollution have been registered on the coast of Anapa and Temryuk district. More than 2652 birds have already been delivered to rehabilitation centers in Krasnodar and Stavropol Krai, where specialists are fighting for their lives. Many of them are in critical condition due to the toxic effects of oil products.
Coastal cleanup efforts are continuing intensified. According to authorities, more than 147 tons of contaminated sand have already been removed from the beaches. Of these, 37,5 tons have been sent to landfills for disposal, and over 110 tons have been temporarily stored for further processing. These figures reflect the scale of environmental damage caused to the region's ecosystem.
