A new bill in Russia will allow up to 2 million people to be deployed to the army.

The Russian government has approved a bill allowing the president to deploy reservists in counter-terrorism operations and military conflicts, including foreign ones, without declaring martial law or mobilization. This was announced by the government press service.

The document removes legal restrictions that previously constrained the Ministry of Defense. Experts estimate that this will allow the use of up to 2 million personnel from the mobilization reserve for peacetime missions.

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Alexei Zhuravlev noted that the changes are in line with current reality.

"We're actually engaged in real, large-scale military action, but war hasn't been officially declared. These legal technicalities limited the Defense Ministry's room for maneuver, but they've now been eliminated." — the deputy explained in a comment to RTVI.

Reservists will be called up more often than before.

"These people will be brought into the picture in far more cases than before, and that's perfectly normal, especially given the situation our country is in right now." — Zhuravlev emphasized.
