Omsk suffers from mobile internet outages for fifth day

Residents of Omsk have been experiencing interruptions in mobile Internet and cellular communications for the fifth day, which is causing a growing public outcry in the city with a population of over a million people. The problems, which began at the end of last week, affected both major communications operators and the daily lives of city residents, forcing them to look for alternative ways to access the network. If the authorities initially explained the situation by scheduled technical work, now the official version has changed: the interruptions are related to "security measures", which has given rise to new questions about the causes and timing of the restoration of stable communications.

The governor of Omsk Region initially reported that the mobile network outages were due to maintenance work and testing of new equipment. However, a flurry of complaints from residents who were unable to use the internet or make calls forced the authorities to reconsider their position. On June 10, 2025, regional officials said that the restrictions were related to the need to ensure security, without specifying what threats they were talking about. On Monday evening, mobile internet briefly appeared in some areas of the city, but an hour later the connection was lost again, which only increased residents' discontent.

Problems with mobile communications have affected not only everyday communication, but also the work of businesses, educational institutions and emergency services. Many Omsk residents report difficulties accessing banking applications, online services and messengers, which is especially critical in the context of digitalization. At the same time, wired Internet and Wi-Fi work without interruptions, which has led to a sharp increase in demand for cable network connections.
