"They Will Agree": Trump Confident Russia Will Agree to 30-Day Ceasefire with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump expressed confidence that Russia is ready to agree to a 30-day ceasefire in the conflict with Ukraine. The statement came during a White House briefing, where the American leader assessed the prospects for a temporary truce proposed as part of recent diplomatic efforts.

"They will agree," “Trump noted laconically, emphasizing that his administration is actively working to resolve the situation, including upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for March 18.

The idea of a 30-day truce was the central theme of consultations held in Saudi Arabia on March 11 involving representatives of the United States and Ukraine. According to Reuters, the proposal is seen as a first step toward a broader peace deal that could freeze the front line and create conditions for further talks. Trump, commenting on the initiative, expressed optimism, linking his confidence to intensive preparations for dialogue with Moscow, although he did not disclose specific details about possible agreements.

In recent weeks, Russian troops have stepped up offensive operations in the Kursk region, seeking to eliminate the Ukrainian bridgehead held since August 2024.

The Russian side has not yet officially confirmed its readiness for a truce. Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump's words, noted that Moscow is carefully studying the proposals, but any agreements must take into account "realities on the ground" and Russia's strategic interests, including control over new territories and Ukraine's refusal to join NATO. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko previously emphasized that temporary truces without clear security guarantees are unacceptable for Moscow.

Meanwhile, Kyiv is showing a cautious readiness for negotiations. The Ukrainian president's commissioner for sanctions policy said that lifting sanctions on Russia is possible within the framework of the peace process, if this is accompanied by reliable security guarantees from Western partners. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that any agreements must exclude the legitimization of Crimea and other territories.
