Igor Kartavykh, executive director of the Sputnik Azerbaijan branch, has been released from custody.

This was announced by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. According to him, Kartavykh, who was arrested on June 30 during an operation at the agency's office, is now free to leave Azerbaijan. Ushakov noted that the situation with Russian journalists in Baku "has been resolved in our favor."

The Kartavs and editor-in-chief Yevgeny Belousov were detained on espionage charges. Appeals against their arrests were rejected in July, but Moscow negotiated with Baku for their release.
