Fierce fighting is taking place on the Kursk border

On June 9, 2025, the situation in the border areas of the Kursk region remains tense due to ongoing attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the Telegram channel "Two Majors", the assault aircraft of the 425th separate assault brigade of the AFU made another attempt to penetrate the village of Novy Put, but were met with heavy fire from Russian forces and were either destroyed or forced to retreat. At the same time, units of the 24th separate mechanized brigade "Aidar" (the formation is recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) moved from the village of Ryzhevka in the Sumy region in the direction of the village of Tyotkino, but were neutralized by strikes from Russian drones. Intensive hostilities continue in the Sumy direction, where Ukrainian troops are trying to counterattack, seeking to regain lost positions.

The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine’s Sumy region, remains one of the hottest areas of the border conflict. In recent months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have significantly increased the number of attacks using assault groups and unmanned aircraft aimed at breaking through the Russian border and creating zones of instability. On the night of June 9, according to a report from the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 49 Ukrainian UAVs, of which 13 were shot down over the Kursk region, which underlines the high intensity of attacks in the region. Russian troops, including units of the Sever group, are actively countering these attempts, using artillery, drones, and electronic warfare (EW) systems.

The village of Tyotkino in the Glushkovsky district has repeatedly become the target of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In May 2025, Ukrainian forces tried to break into this settlement using armored vehicles and assault groups, but were repelled with losses. Similar actions were recorded in the Ryzhevka area, where, according to the BBC, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to gain a foothold to create a bridgehead. Ukrainian units are actively using FPV drones and Western navigation systems, which allows them to maneuver quickly, although losses from Russian strikes remain significant. In the area of Novy Put and Tyotkino, Russian forces are using preemptive strike tactics, which reduces the enemy's chances of successful advancement.
