US House of Representatives Rejects Trump Impeachment Resolution

On June 24, 2025, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump sponsored by Texas Democratic Congressman Al Green. According to CNN, 344 members of Congress voted against the proposal, including all Republicans and 128 Democrats, while only 79 Democrats supported the initiative. The resolution accused Trump of abuse of power due to the unauthorized strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22, which, according to Green, were carried out without congressional approval, violating Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the US Constitution, which delegates to Parliament the power to declare war.

The conflict began on June 13, when Israel attacked the nuclear sites at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan in Operation People Like a Lion, killing key Iranian military officials including IRGC commander Hossein Salami. Iran responded with Operation True Promise 3, firing more than 400 missiles and 28 drones at Israel, killing 22 people. The United States entered the conflict on June 5, striking the same sites in what Trump called a “successful operation” to prevent a nuclear threat. Iran claimed minimal damage and no radiation leaks, according to Reuters. Al Green, a prominent Trump critic who was previously escorted off the floor of Congress on March 2025, XNUMX, for disrupting the president’s speech, accused him of “authoritarianism” and a “threat to democracy.”

The vote exposed a split among Democrats, with 128 members joining Republicans in rejecting the resolution, which The Hill said reflected a lack of consensus even in the opposition. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backed Greene, calling the strikes “unconstitutional,” but House Speaker Mike Johnson called the measure “political theater.”
