Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the freezing of the country's membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), noting that the organization poses a threat to the country's security and sovereignty. The statement was made during his speech at the Pan-Armenian Forum and sparked heated discussions both in Armenia and abroad.
According to Pashinyan, the decision to freeze membership in the CSTO is connected not only with the fact that the organization, in Yerevan's opinion, has not fulfilled its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, but also with the fact that its actions, on the contrary, threaten the existence and independence of the country. The Prime Minister emphasized that over the recent period, the CSTO has not demonstrated its readiness to effectively protect Armenia's interests, especially at critical moments, which was the main reason for Yerevan's reconsideration of its attitude towards its membership in the organization.
"We have frozen our membership in the CSTO not only because the CSTO is not fulfilling its obligations, but also because the CSTO is creating threats to our country.", said Pashinyan.
In his opinion, this decision was dictated by the need to preserve the independence and security of Armenia against the backdrop of the unstable situation in the region.
Pashinyan's criticism of the CSTO is likely due to the organization's insufficient support in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
